Our Cotzal Huipil Bag is handmade from recycled Huipils (pronounced Wee-peel), the Spanish term for the traditional blouse worn by Mayan women in Guatemala.
Fair trade imported and made of recycled materials, this beautiful handbag comes in two colors: blue and maroon.
About Huipils
Huipils are the most significant part of a Mayan woman's costume, and to the knowledgeable observer it identifies a woman's village, social and marital status, religious background, wealth, and individual personality. Three panels make up the Cotzal huipil blouse, featuring alternating geometric bands, interspersed with figures of birds or 4-footed creatures.
Because these bags are made of several blouses, no two bags are exactly the same. Handmade in Guatemala and fair trade imported.
